A native of Dunkirk, Jennifer DePasquale, an accomplished athlete and a standout player on the Buffalo Brawlers, has taken over as the team's new owner. The Brawlers recently clinched the North American Cornhole Association (NACA) championship, making this transition particularly significant. DePasquale expressed excitement about this new chapter, acknowledging both her anticipation and nervousness. She sees this opportunity as a pivotal investment in her future, especially given the league’s rapid expansion from five to fifteen teams over recent years.
New Ownership Marks a New Era for the Buffalo Brawlers
The transfer of ownership from Pete Mann to Jennifer DePasquale signifies a fresh start for the Buffalo Brawlers. Mann, who owns the entire NACA league, decided to sell the Brawlers due to potential conflicts of interest. DePasquale seized this opportunity, recognizing the immense potential in leading a champion team within a rapidly growing sport. Her background as a multi-sport athlete at Dunkirk High School and collegiate experience in softball, basketball, and rugby provided her with the necessary skills and passion for this venture. The Brawlers’ impressive performance last season, which included a regional and overall championship win, made this acquisition a no-brainer for DePasquale.
DePasquale discovered her love for cornhole during the pandemic and quickly became proficient in the sport. After joining the professional league, she played alongside three other teammates—Hunter Meyette, Mike Rabenhorst Jr., and Ken Marx. As the new owner, DePasquale will remain actively involved in the team’s operations and competitions. She will serve as the General Manager responsible for the yearly draft following tryouts and will not be eligible to be drafted by another team. This role allows her to further contribute to the team’s success while also investing in her own future through ownership dues and potential sponsorships.
Expanding Opportunities for Local Businesses and Fans
DePasquale envisions leveraging her position as team owner to promote local businesses in Chautauqua County. With the league expanding its reach through streaming platforms like YouTube and Facebook, and possibly television broadcasts, sponsorship opportunities have never been more attractive. DePasquale aims to secure partnerships that place logos on team jerseys and apparel, as well as during broadcasts. This exposure can significantly benefit local enterprises by increasing their visibility and attracting new customers.
To celebrate this milestone, DePasquale is hosting an event at 64 on the Rocks on Friday evening, where fans can purchase merchandise and engage with the team. The community is invited to join in the festivities, showcasing support for both DePasquale and the Buffalo Brawlers. By fostering connections between the team and local businesses, DePasquale hopes to create a mutually beneficial relationship that enhances the profile of both the Brawlers and Chautauqua County. Her vision extends beyond just winning championships; it includes building a strong, supportive network that thrives on collaboration and shared success.
